Welcome to my website 'Non Aliud'
Non Aliud
The name "Non Aliud" (lat.) means nothing but "nothing but" or "not-other".
So this website is nothing but my website.
This expression has of course a background elsewhere.
It is used within contemporary computer culture on the virtual.
In this respect "Non Aliud" is within time.
The German philosopher and theologian Nicholas of Cusa (1401-64)
uses this expression to denote something outside or before time,
as an attribute to God. In his book De Li Non Aliud (1463)
he uses 'non aliud' as a principle that refers to itself. Finally it refers to the first beginning or ultimate cause.
God is nothing but God.
About the website
This web site is based on a database. The articles can thus be displayed in several layouts (different font sizes and font faces), and
phrases in the articles is searchable.
Please choose main topics from the menu in the left bar. This English version of my website consists of pages in both English and Norwegian. In the menus you will find my
Norwegian pages with grey links, and the English or bilingual ones with red links.
"Non Aliud" is strictly connected to my academic profession. I have a more non-professional web site as well,
Semaphore which focuses on the
cultural way of travelling, namely by rail. Semaphore were predecessors to the present days electric light signals.
Acknowledgements
"Non Aliud" was in Dec. 2004 awarded as "The Website of the Month" by the Danish teologinet.dk.
